Joe Schmidt to Address Guests on the Pursuit of Excellence

Marian College will celebrate their 60th Anniversary with Gala Dinner in Aviva Stadium

Monday, 6th October: Marian College, Lansdowne Road, Ballsbridge, have today announced that Joe Schmidt, Six Nations winning Irish rugby coach, will address guests at its 60th Anniversary gala dinner in the Aviva Stadium on Friday 28th November.

Founded in 1954 in the beautiful setting of Riverside House on the banks of the Dodder, Marian College is a Marist Brothers Catholic Secondary school with a current student population of 400. The schools motto is Optimum Optare – the pursuit of excellence, a theme which sits incredibly well with Joe Schmidt who guided Ireland to Six Nations silverware earlier this year.

Speaking ahead of the event, Paul Meany, principal of Marian College said: “As current Principal of the school with a long and proud history in the community, I’m delighted to be involved in the planning of this very special event for Marian College.   Positioned right on the doorstep of the iconic Aviva Stadium at Lansdowne Road, Marian College is a local landmark and synonymous with the pursuit of excellence in education and sports for generations of local people. The calibre of the students who have passed through the doors of Marian College and who choose to gather at Past Pupil’s Unions events like these to share stories of their achievements and successes or simply just to reconnect with old friends is a testament to the bonds that are formed over the years.  This year, we are proud and delighted to welcome Joe Schmidt, a true ambassador for the pursuit of sporting excellence in this country as a guest at our 60th Anniversary celebrations”.

All past pupils are welcome and this Gala Dinner is an excellent opportunity for past pupils to renew old acquaintances and celebrate the outstanding contribution that Marian College has made.

Tickets, priced at €65, are available to past pupils or groups by contacting Peter Magee at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
